Walmart is a corporate giant with over 11,000 retail locations located in 27 different countries. With over a million associates that help manage and contribute to their success, Walmart has an efficient supply chain that was ranked 14th this year (2014) by Gartner (a research and analyst company); strategic and outlined processes are also in place that allow them to sell billions of dollars annually. With radio frequency identification (RFID), logistical scheduling, electronic data interchange (EDI) and maintaining vendor relationships and requirements, Walmart has become a leader in retail: providing convenience and low prices to their customers. They are able to continually grow their success and maintain their low prices by managing their inventory in a more cost-effective way, and continuously analyzing and improving their systems and forecasting. As well, they operate their own fleet of trucks and have developed a new, advanced “supercube” truck which allows them to deliver up to 40% more merchandise, making their deliveries more efficient and less frequent. Running on a vendor managed inventory system, Walmart continues to grow and develop new technologies that not only benefit the corporation but more importantly their customer.
